Teaching, Learning and Assessment
Workshops
We currently offer the following workshops and workshop series. The series
comprise several modules that we can offer singly, in various combinations or
as a whole in various time slots.
Foundations in Teaching
Seven modules that together provide a comprehensive introduction to course
development with a central focus on student learning from planning through the
assessment of instruction. Adaptable to individual courses or curricula in the
major or general education.
Introduction to Inquiry-guided Learning
Five modules designed to introduce instructors to inquiry-guided learning.
Outcomes-based Assessment
Demonstrates how to use outcomes to assess student learning and the
effectiveness of instruction and to offer guidance for the improvement of
instruction. Also explores how programs such as the academic major and
general education can use course-based assessment as part of program-based
assessment.
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
Provides practical guidance on how to conduct classroom-based research and
present it for publication and other forms of dissemination such as the
conference poster session.
Teaching for Understanding
Explores an alternative view of teaching and learning that promotes learning that
lasts longer than a semester and transfers beyond the specific context of
instruction.
Teaching Intensive Courses
An exploratory workshop that draws from research literature on intensive
courses, brain research, and vivid memories to suggest guiding principles for
teaching during summer session, inter-term, and other compressed learning
situations.
