Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
Inspired by the classic 1990 Boyer Report, the scholarship of teaching and learning seeks
to bring to classroom practice the same level of acumen as traditional scholarship and to
"make teaching public." Unlike some scholarly ventures, the scholarship of teaching and
learning is a scholarship of practice and thus differs in material ways from traditional
scholarship.

In this workshop, we will explore how to conduct research in and on our classes and
curricula; how to frame our classroom research as scholarly work; and how to present it as
a journal article, poster session or other academic genre.

We'll also consider the strengths and limitations of this form of scholarship: the kinds of
claims it can make, for whom and under what circumstances.

We can present this workshop in various lengths, from a half-day workshop to a
multiple-day retreat, and at different levels of sophistication: for the novice as well as the
more experienced researcher.
